I would like to volunteer to put flyers on 3rd Ave regardingn the June 17th meeting. My friends would also be willing to attach flyers outside of mailboxes on 4th street and 9th street. How do we sign up?
Hi Teresa – just following up that you were able to download our flyer. If you need assistance, please let us know. Thanks! StopMC
Hi Teresa – please subscribe to our newsletter and we will fill you in when the new flyers are ready. Thanks!
My children play baseball and soccer in Steers Pit. At last nights game I was spreading the word regarding the low income housing project, No one I spoke to was aware of what was happening, but everyone was concerned and not supportive of the project. I would love to place a flier on all the cars that park down there for games. All of the parents live in the community and almost everyone of them have children in the Northport/East Northport School District. The next couple of weekends would be a great time to do this. Please let me know what I can print on the fliers and I will take care of it.
The reason no TOH council members were willing to address the crowd at the Council meeting is that they were afraid if they said something negative about the project, HHI would try to claim they were contempt of the court agreement.
I've been hearing criticism about the behavior of those attending the high school meeting last week, where folks were vocally asking for answers to our questions. Having been told it was "a done deal and nothing we could do about it" There were no reps from Huntington or Housing Help. How should we have responded? What was the alternative? The only answer is that we shouldn't have been calling out for answers, but NO ONE has given me an answer. Anyone else responding to this?
You have a "donation" button in the upper right corner of this site. Where will these funds go? How will they be allocated?
I think we are going to lose this one based on what I saw in today's NewsDay (6/18/2010).
Next, we vote them out and don't do any business with whatever organizations that are tied to this project, whether directly or indirectly, Avis being first and foremost.
Who on the Town Board are you voting out, and on what grounds? The TOH put an unprescedented amount of money and energy into trying to stop this – the record speaks very clearly to that. This stupid mob mentality ought to end already. The Town faught it for 30 years?! What's wrong with you people that you just dont get that? I'm not asking that sarcastically – I'm asking seriously because it's obvious that you "don't get it". They faught. They faught 30 years to the point that they were held in contempt of court. What else would you like them to have done – please tell us? And who specifically on the Town Board are you voting out, and on what grounds? Please start behaving rational everyone. You're behaving like an irrational gang. I'm not happy about the development either, but I'm not going to chase the Town Board with a pitchfork and toarch just because I don't like a court decision – it's NOT their fault. Get with it.
wow..sounds like you have been drinking the obama kooaid!!! Get with it mike!!! The TOH board is not the same guys it was 30 yrs ago. If you don't know they are just an extension of the obama liberal machine…with the exception of the newly elected Mark Mayoka. These guys are as dirty as the day is long and it goes back to Steve Isreal. I don't know how much you know about when Petrone jumped ship to the dems , but that was a real dirtbag deal and when the Town atty ran against him and lost, oh yea then he got the toh atty job. As far as reversing this thing…how about trying washingtons tactics, ie deem the budget passed, strong arming healthcare, they never give up why should we!!!
In the first half of 2000, the local Landmarks Preservation Commission denied the
developer’s request to build a 17-story building after hearing from numerous parties that
the structure would unjustly change the character of their neighborhood. For his part, Mr.
Allen produced a short video about Carnegie Hill, and New York Magazine reported that
Mr. Kline quoted Richard II to the Landmarks Preservation Commission on the matter—
“How sour sweet music is, when time is broke, and no proportion kept!”

I think we need to find a precedent where construction was denied by the state/locality because it was too luxury or high end for a certain area and would result in pricing out the current residents.

I think first and foremost, we need to establish the hypocrisy of the NAACP regarding this development. On one hand, they (NAACP) are against changing neighborhood characteristics and culture (i.e. gentrification of Harlem, Columbia University expansion) but on the other hand they are for changing the neighborhood characteristics (High density housing in suburban areas such as MC), so where do they stand, are they against or for changing neighborhood characteristics or not ?
The people of East Northport and their concerns about this project are valid, and are simply "set aside" or "ignored" in the name of political correctness, is this not a violation of OUR civil rights and have we not been discriminated against ?
We need to use the same tactics they use to move forward with our demands.
Does anyone know what the building going up down on Larkfield past Sears is and who is putting it up? I don't see signs when I drive by. It looks like apartments–it's an ugly monster so far. Thanks–
Good question I would like to know also??
How do we voice our opposition to the sewage treatment plant, so that hopefully the variance will be denied? Will there be a public hearing?
you would all these tree hugging liberals in TOH would be opposed to any variance to build a sewer plant….but oh I guess that would mean less votes and kickbacks for them and more screwing to us….like I said before you all had the chance to vote them out last year!!! hope you all wake up next Nov!!!
They're at the same place where the "Code Pink" is, nowhere to be found. Wars and destruction of natural habitats don't seem to warrant protest and marches when they're under democrat leadership.
We learned today that being in the Greenlawn Water District we were to boil our water because of e-coli in well #16. First of all we found out from a friend, who said they read it on page 24 of newsday. It was on channel twelve we were told, unfortunately we have Verizon (no channel 12) so did not see the report. Again we were told it was on Greenlawn Water District web sight, why would I go to the water district sight on a daily basis. My comment and concern is that in a health situation like this there should be some means of notifying people, like channel 2,4,5, or 7 which have at times L I news. According to what I understand the health department was at Ruvo's in Greenlawn warning them, and telling the local Bars not to use the ice cubes. People should be notified of such a health risk. The Greenlawn Water District dropped the ball and the phone was evidently off the hook, because you could only get a busy signal from 11:00am till 4:30pm. The public deserves better.
Is the DEIS uploaded to this site or can I find this at another location?…please advise.
What if we all just stopped paying our Real Estate taxes ?
hey you idiots! who the hell cares where they put the affordable housing?! You think that just becauase it's in greenlawn, huntington, or somewhere else other than npt/enpt then that means it's not in your backyard? Well you are wrong; everywhere is your backyard and everyone is entitled to a roof over their head. If someone is willing to build affordable housing near a great SD then you should be happy because educated citizens make productive adults and contributors to our society. You all need to stop with your hateful opinions and have charitable hearts; you never know when it could be YOU who needs more affordable living!!!
I GO TO WORK EVERYDAY AND I WOULD NOT LOWER MYSELF TO THAT LEVEL
Plenty of people who live in affordable housing go to work every day too!
Forcing this development down the residents throats through the courts is the wrong way to do it. No one wants affordable housing in northport. Just look at Freeport, Hempstead, and now Huntington. No Thanks. GO AWAY
I have a few thoughts.
If the Town of Huntington is not allowed to represent the residents due to a contempt of court issue then why are the residents not filing litigation claiming a failure to be properly represented?
Second, I understand there is already a list of potential lottery winners who will claim any subsidized housing.
If so, how can this be if this list was created 20+ years ago.?
Third, why is it that it would appear the winners of these lotteries are directly related to those providing the service?

Why is this?
Maybe there is a reasonable explanation?

Who is "Monique Agudio? http://www.linkedin.com/pub/monique-agudio/1b/925…
So we have a service provider providing real estate opportunities to…hmm.. themselves?
This smells a bit corrupt.
But hey, maybe I am wrong.
This shouldnt be called "Take back the block"
It should be called "give away the block"
Or better yet.
"Give it to a friend and tell them they are tax exempt"
